Delhi Police says Kundra admits to betting
Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar on Thursday said the
Indian Premier League team Rajasthan Royals' co-owner Raj Kundra has confessed
to betting on his own team.
Mr. Kundra, who was questioned by the Special Cell for over 10
hours on Wednesday, purportedly told the police that he placed bets through his
business partner and close friend Umesh Goenka.The police have already quizzed
Mr. Goenka and recorded his statement.
The Delhi Police Commissioner told the media that Mr. Kundra
also confessed to having lost huge sums of money in betting. The police are to
decide further course of action against the Rajasthan Royals team owner, based
on the available evidence and his purported conversation.
The police said Mr. Goenka, an alleged bookie, was in touch with
Rajasthan Royals cricketer Sidharth Trivedi and had sought from him information
about the team formation and pitch conditions in Ahmedabad. For his part, Mr. Kundra
had earlier tweeted that he was aiding the police in the probe into spot fixing
case, lauding the Special Cell officers.
It is learnt that the police have also seized Mr.Kundra's
passport, who is a British citizen, ensuring his presence in the country during
the probe.Betting is considered to be a minor bailable offence attracting a
token fine.
